History
Originally constituted when a 1849 California gold rush as a mining camp, the town was 1st known as Butte Mills, however a title was changed to Dogtown, when there were at one point further dogs than houses.

In April 12, 1859 at the Willard Claim, the hydraulic mine in the Feather River Canyon northeast of the town, a 54-pound (Twenty kilo) gold nugget was found, a big gold nugget ever discovered in a globe at the instance. Dubbed a "Dogtown nugget", it manufactured a town far-famed.
